The name of the brand, Wave Function, is associated with the great 20th Century physicist Erwin Shrödinger. Although renowned for his famous cat in a box thought experiment his real achievements are far beyond this, the Shrödinger equation being one of them. As Sean Carroll specified in his book “Something Deeply Hidden”:
‘Quantum systems are described by wave functions rather than by positions and velocities. Just as Newton’s laws of motion govern the evolution of the state of a system in classical mechanics, there is an equation that governs how wave functions evolve, called Shrödinger’s equation. We can express Shrödinger’s equation in words as: “The rate of change of a wave function is proportional to the energy of the quantum system.”
